Taking Tyre Industry-Auto OEMs partnership several notches higher, tyre manufacturers under the aegis of Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA) came together to carry out a comprehensive Tyre Care & Road Safety campaign at Honda Cars Greater Noida campus recently. Around 30 service engineers from ATMA member companies under the stewardship of Project Coordinator Mr S S Gusain inspected the tyres of more than 500 passenger cars in the parking lot of the Auto major.
The two-day intensive drive also witnessed multiple interactive seminars wherein around 450 Honda employees were sensitized on tyre related road safety with a view to spread the message around.
Tyre companies which participated at the Honda Cars drive included Apollo Tyres, Birla, Bridgestone, Ceat, Continental, Goodyear, JK Tyre, Michelin, MRF, Yokohama and TVS.
Indian Tyre Technical Advisory Committee (ITTAC) consisting of country’s leading technical experts played a vital role in successful execution of the tyre safety drive.
As an added feature, tyres of commercial vehicles used by Honda Cars to ferry its employees were also inspected and the drivers were briefed on tyre safety on the spot.
“Tyre is a key safety device in a vehicle. Well maintained tyres play a large role in overall road safety. After all, tyres are the only point of contact with the road. We congratulate the Honda Cars management for coming forward to make road journeys safer through an awareness drive on maintenance of tyres”, said Mr. Rajiv Budhraja, Director General ATMA.
According to ATMA, a well maintained tyre is a life saver on the roads. A large number of accidents can be prevented if simple steps are taken to maintain tyres. A tyre carries more than 50 times its own weight while its point of contact with the road is just the size of a postcard.
There are several benefits of well-maintained tyres including efficient braking, good ride and handling and fuel economy. Worn out tyres are a big safety hazard.
